What better way for kids to learn healthy habits than through fun and creative activities?

The Department of Education and Kraft Cheez Whiz recently launched Palamantasan, the first nationwide interschool competition among grade schools across the country for nutrition education. The campaign kicked off nationwide in three schools: Tipas Elementary School in Manila; Lapu-Lapu Central Elementary School in Cebu; and Buhangin Elementary School in Davao.

“We are very happy with how this is going. The energy of the students from the beginning to the end of the program was just overwhelming,” Alex Dan Tacderas, Category Manager for Cheese and Spoonables–Kraft Foods Philippines shares.

Palamantasan is made up of different competitions designed to challenge kids’ creativity and teamwork and at the same time teach them a thing or two about proper nutrition. There were Pagbigkas or Speech Choir and essay-writing contests, where kids tackled the topic of nutrition. Kids also exhibited their artistry with the Sandwich Art Contest, where kids prepared delicious bread baons with their moms and the Jarchitecture where kids showed their different concepts in nutrition. Of course, the much-awaited event is the Cheering Competition where kids twisted and shouted for healthy eating habits.

In Manila, representing Tipas Elementary School for Speech Choir is Pangkat 3; Grade V – Pangkat 2 for a school of nutrition-inspired Jarchitecture craft; Mrs. Irma San Pedro and her son John Stephen won Sandwich Art with their Beef and Cheez Whiz-inspired sandwich; John Gabrielle Reyes for the Essay-Writing contest and representing their school for the Cheering Competition are the Grade 6 Blazers.

For Cebu, representing Lapu-Lapu Central Elementary School for Speech Choir is Team Aktibo; Ch-Wezzy Body Protector Jarchitecture craft; Dina Mondelo and daughter Zamantha for their Crunchy Cheese Stick Wiches in Sandwich Art. Despi Montessa for the Essay-writing contest and representing their school for the Cheering Competition are the SHE Brats.

Davao placed their bets on the 6 Team for the Speech Choir; the grade 6 pupils of Super Cheez Whiz Sandiwch group for Jarchitecture; Debbie Forro and son Dave won Sandwich Art for their Palamantasya Hanep sa Pagmamahal sandwich; Ella Mae Eborda for the Essay-writing contest and representing their school for the Cheering Competition are the Cheez Cheerers.
