Chemistry is often seen as a complicated field. But do you know that it is vital to everyday living? And contrary to popular belief, it doesn’t take a genius to understand its basic concepts. The magic formula lies in making learning chemicals fun for kids.

BASF Kids’ Lab demonstrated this for four years in a row. This year, grade school students from St. Scholastica’s College Westgrove experienced a day of simple, hands-on experiments at the BASF Auditorium in Calamba, Laguna. Teamed with chemistry students from the University of the Philippines, the pupils got to participate in conducting three easy laboratory demonstrations.
The first activity demonstrated how one material, super-absorbers, can actually absorb up to 1,000 times its weight. One of BASF’s products, the substance is used in many hygiene products for its absorbent quality.  In fact, it is one of the most useful components in consumer products today.

The next experiment showed students how dirty waste water mixed with activated charcoal can be purified and cleaned with the use of filters. Through this, kids can be made aware of their parts in environmental protection and conservation. (Read More)

But there’s a catch: Edward is a vampire, thirsting for her blood.

Book versus Movie

With all the hype, fans of the book expected a lot from its film adaptation. But unlike its predecessors Harry Potter and Narnia, the movie actually did justice to the book. Memorable quotations from the book were used and the storyline stuck with the plot. The movie even managed to show both the magnificence and humanity of the Cullen clan, making us realize that they are not so different from us after all. (Read More)
